Hairy Footed Flower Bee female on Lungwort, (Pulmonaria). Often the first solitary bee to be out pollinating early flowers, these small bees especially like Lungwort but also visit primrose, comfrey & dead-nettle. They feed on nectar from these early tubular flowers with a long tongue.
The female is black and furry, and resembles a small bumble bee, (although her quick darting movements bely this). The males are a gingery-brown with distinctive cream coloured hair on their faces. The males also have the long, orange hairs on their middle legs and feet that gives them their name.
