Brambling visitor today

This female Brambling was a surprise visitor earlier today - we usually only see these birds when there's snow on the ground.

Beautiful colouring, these birds are part of the finch family and can be found hanging around with Chaffinches, (which she was).

Reading further with the BTO, Bramblings are a winter visitor to the UK from northern Europe and Asia.

They can reach impressive flock sizes, counting in the millions on the continent.

An absolute pleasure to see, with her feathers glowing in the March sun.
