Early April wild flowers

It's early April and the hedgerows are bursting with sloe blossom!

Our pear is in full bloom and as I mentioned last month the cherry was very early. Also flowering now is our Laurel, which reaches a massive height.

Known here as House Sparrow Towers, the Laurel is full of movement and chirping all day. House sparrows always sound so happy, apart from the very occasional squabble.

Some more wild flowers are out too, with others not far behind!

The Ladysmock appeared a little early, in the last few days of March, and more popping up by the day. Ladysmock, (or cuckoo flower, as it used to appear as the Cuckoo returned to this country to breed) is a favourite of the Orange tip butterfly.

Also out now are the Dog Violets and Common Vetch, whilst up in the field above us, the edible plant Chickweed is happily flowering away.
