Since 2020 I've been paying more attention to the birdsong around me, as well as enjoying it.
I'd noticed that the song thrushes were very punctual each year - their daily song started regularly on 1st Feb, all the way though to summer solstice.
Each evening, we'd have the treat of the ‘Song Thrush Sing-off’ – hearing the winner sing the sun down.
The day after solstice? ...silence at sundown - stopping like clockwork...
This year however, I've heard them singing already!
It'll be interesting to see keep going until solstice before they leave the background soundtrack to the smaller birds..
